Expand the Osprey Viewing Experience

Explore the world of Ospreys in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. These magnificent birds soar above the sparkling New River and other scenic waterways. With their striking brown-and-white plumage and commanding wingspans, Ospreys are a mesmerizing sight as they thrive in our region's forests and winding rivers.

In early Spring 2024, an Osprey family chose Radford University's campus as their home, creating a unique opportunity for up-close observation through the Raptor Cam, made possible by CMG Leasing. Thanks to this incredible technology, viewers can experience the awe-inspiring lives of these "fish hawks" as they glide gracefully and survey their surroundings with precision and focus.

Last year, our adult Ospreys, Tartan and Talon, were named in a community-wide competition. This year, we're taking the experience to new heights by raising funds for enhanced equipment. Thanks to generous donor support, we can now hear the sharp calls of parents communicating, the shrill cries of young chicks as they clamor for food, and the dramatic sounds of territorial disputes, with the addition of a microphone. We can now feel fully immersed in the world of our Osprey family as we kick off another exciting Nest Watch season.  Ongoing support for this project allows us to keep our technology up and running and maintain widespread access to this natural wonder.
