THE COLLEGIATE RECOVERY COMMUNITY

Help students in recovery find hope and success at Radford University.

For many students in our community, two of the most outstanding characteristics of higher education are its newfound independence and unique challenges.  For some, exposure to these challenges and their newly discovered freedom  – often combined with other pre-determined factors – triggers a chain-reaction that leads them down a path to addiction. It has been found that a strong combatant of addiction is connection. It is vital for people in recovery – especially early recovery – to find a welcoming community of support and an environment of hope.

The Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) at Radford University provides a welcoming environment for students in, or seeking recovery from substance misuse. We support our students as they take the difficult first steps toward a very important change in the pathway of their lives.  Our goal is to provide an immersive community experience for our students with recovery-based activities like taking them on community-building trips, providing a gathering space to encourage their connection, offering them unique alternative spring break options and celebrating their achievements with graduation ceremonies. We aspire to make these and many other recovery resources available to our students without placing the financial burden on them - since many of them already experience financial strain. The whole Highlander community benefits when we make recovery accessible and attainable.

DIVERSITY ENHANCEMENT

Help us ensure our students learn about diversity, inclusion, and belonging!

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion along with various departments and student organizations promotes multicultural awareness through programming and workshops. 

The Diversity Enhancement Fund supports the Center for Diversity and Inclusion in its mission to expand learning opportunities by providing support and a variety of programs, activities, and services to students!

When you support this fund, you support student-focused programs like cultural and educational excursions, belonging trainings, cultural heritage programming, and registrations for conferences. In addition, and in agreement with the University’s passion for learning while doing, the CDI also needs additional funding to assist students of marginalized identities with opportunities to study abroad. Experiences like these can enrich the recipients’ education, broaden their cultural understanding, and provide opportunities for personal and academic growth.

THE LIBRARY

Help Radford University Libraries support exploring, learning and research!

“Find Your Spot” isn’t just a slogan. We are passionate about creating a space in our libraries where you really can find your spot . We're aware that our libraries often serve as a home base for students as they study, meet with friends, and prepare for their coming days. Our libraries also provide much-needed support for up-to-date learning tools that support every major on our campuses. To meet the academic and social needs of our students, we aim to keep pace with the ever-changing technologies and to ensure the libraries at each of our campus sites are accommodating to each student's unique study needs. 

With this in mind, we appreciate any donations from our soon-to-be grads who understand how important the library has been to their success as students. Your donations will help us continue to provide warm and welcoming spaces for students to explore, learn and grow!

MILITARY RESOURCE CENTER

The Radford University Military Resource Center is here to serve student veterans, active military and reserve members, spouses, and military dependents.  We understand that our military-affiliated students have unique needs and responsibilities, and our dedicated military support team is here to assist them from start to finish. Our center is committed to ensuring that our students thrive and successfully make the transition from their military environment to campus life. We help our students identify their military benefits and support them through enrollment and understanding their financial aid packages. Additionally, we help them reach their academic and career goals.

TARTAN TAILS - THERAPY DOG PROGRAM

Support the training of our furry heroes!

The college student experience can challenge the well-being of our students. Unavoidable aspects of the experience such as being homesick, always feeling pushed to the next deadline, or dealing with separation from a pet back home make healthy coping resources essential. Sometimes even the smallest adjustments can have great impact.  

That's why President Bret Danilowicz and his wife Kay passionately believe in the positive effects of making trained therapy dogs accessible to students on Radford University’s campuses. Kay Danilowicz is continuing to build and support a team of Highlander therapy dogs – aptly named Tartan Tails - to support the wellness of our Radford University community. You've probably seen these furry helpers around campus and at various events. If you've participated in the "Yappy Hours" at the library you are very familiar with the results of this work!  You can help this cause by contributing to support the training of these furry heroes! Any donation size helps!

Please consider giving today to offset the costs of training and other expenses that are essential to maintaining the Tartan Tails program.
