Honor the life of Sheri Shay Stevens by supporting educators focused on helping individuals with special needs
Sheri Shay’s life was anchored in a devotion to faith, family, friends and service. She graduated from Radford University in 1995 with a degree in Marketing and was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.
After graduating from Radford, she built a marketing career in local banking. First at Peapack-Gladstone Bank in New Jersey, then as an owner of "Just a Nibble Bakery & Cafe" back in Virginia, her next stop took her to Community Bank in Staunton and then in 2012 she joined The Bank of Botetourt. These purpose-driven institutions aligned well with Shay’s love for her communities and commitment to volunteerism.
Shay served on local boards and was involved in various community organizations including the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce and the Botetourt Farmers Market. She had a passion and commitment to those with special needs and volunteered to teach Sunday School with them at her church. Shay was also involved in the “Night to Shine,” a prom night experience for people with special needs, and the Special Needs Day at Beaver Dam Farm in Botetourt County.
Shay is remembered as a kind, funny, bright light who was always there for others and willing to lend a helping hand and this scholarship honors her legacy of service to others.
The Sheri Shay Stevens Scholarship will support Radford University students who have demonstrated a commitment to community and are enrolled in a teacher education program pursuing a special education degree at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Faculty within the College of Education and Human Development will select the recipient each year. Thank you for helping us honor Shay and creating an opportunity for Highlanders to carry her legacy of service and love forward.
