Center for Assessment and Psychological Services (CAPS)

What is the Center of Assessment and Psychologial Services (CAPS)?  Here at CAPS we strive to provide high-quality mental health and assessment services to the Radford University and surrounding communities.  CAPS provides a variety of psychological services including assessment, consultation, intervention/therapy, clinical training, research/grants, and community outreach activities. By offering our services at a reduced cost, we aim to make them accessible to more students and families.  In addition to the services we offer the community, we also provide Radford University psychology graduate students with advanced clinical training and research opportunities.

Why CAPS is Important:

In Southwest Virginia we have a shortage of mental health providers and clinical services in our communities. CAPS helps to fill this gap by providing these needed services at reduced costs and by connecting our clients with other resources in our community that can support their needs.   Additionally, Radford University, K-12 students, and other local university students utilize our assessment services to help determine what supports, accommodations, and/or interventions may be needed to address their learning challenges and support their academic goals.  Lastly, there is a national shortage of school psychologists, which has greatly impacted the mental health supports in our local school systems.  CAPS’ unique clinical training of graduate school psychology students equips them with the skills necessary to provide much needed mental health and assessment services in K-12 schools.

How You Can Help:

Your support can play a vital role in helping CAPS achieve our mission and make a positive impact in our community. With your contribution, we can:

  • Provide affordable assessment and mental health services to those in need
  • Expand our services to more clients and reduce waiting times
  • Offer new interventions and services to clients
  • Hire more licensed clinicians and graduate clinicians
  • Support psychology graduate student clinicians’ research and training
  • Purchase new technologies and materials for the center
  • Fund vouchers for pro-bono or very low-cost services to those who cannot afford our fees

Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated! Together, we can make a positive change and create a better future for our community. Thank you for being a part of our mission.
