Honor a Highlander: The Teddy Wilson Memorial Soccer Scholarship
Teddy Wilson was the kind of teammate — and human being — you never forget. Quiet, strong, and unwaveringly loyal, he anchored Radford’s championship-winning soccer team from 1987 to 1990, playing defense with grit and grace. But more than that, he had your back — on and off the field.
Now, we invite you to have his. We’re raising funds to establish the Teddy Wilson Memorial Soccer Scholarship at Radford University.
A Defender in Every Sense
From the backline of Cupp Stadium to the heart of Highlander soccer history, Teddy helped lead one of the most successful eras in program history — including the 1988 Big South Championship. He and his teammates won 55 games over four seasons, but Teddy never sought the spotlight. He was a protector, a playmaker, and a quiet force of stability. His job was to win the ball and get it to the scorers. He didn’t want the ball — he wanted his team to succeed. Off the pitch, Teddy was no different. He coached his sons in soccer and football. He showed up for friends, family, and former teammates — always dependable and always kind. Even in his final days, Teddy brought people together. Dozens of Radford alumni — teammates, friends, and family — gathered to celebrate his life. His impact ripples far beyond the field.
One Big Radford Family
Teddy met the love of his life, Dee Dee Herndon, on the Radford soccer field. Their Highlander love story is legendary — two all-conference players, two hearts in sync. Together, they built a life rooted in loyalty, community, and deep love for their family and friends.
As teammate Dante Washington ’92 said: “He gave more of himself than the average person. I know he was always there for me.”
